Community Consultation
The Water Corporation continues to work with the community in the planning for the Southern Seawater Desalination Project. We have been engaging with the community and asking for feedback through a number of ways including community meetings, newsletters, advertising and this website.
If you have ideas about how the community would like to be involved or other ways in which the Water Corporation might be able to support the community, please Contact us and let us know your thoughts.
Community Reference Group
The Southern Seawater Desalination Project (SSDP) is a major development that, if approved, will see a significant Water Corporation presence in the local area for the long-term.
The Water Corporation genuinely wants to understand the community's priorities and concerns that exist currently, through construction and on to operation.
A key recommendation from the independent consultant that undertook the Social Impact Assessment (SIA) for the project was that a Community Reference Group (CRG) be established.
The consultant, GHD recommended that such a reference group would enhance communication between the community and the project. We immediately accepted that a properly representative CRG would assist in this regard.
We believe the establishment of a CRG is the best way for the Water Corporation to draw on local knowledge to guarantee we build and operate the most environmentally and socially sustainable plant possible.
The community representatives of the CRG will provide on-going information and advice on any impacts that may arise during the construction and operation of the desalination project. The CRG will play a leading role in guaranteeing we are and always will be accountable to the community for our actions. We also envisage the CRG will contribute significant advice about what projects Binningup and Myalup would like to see the Water Corporation support as part of a local benefits package.
We will continue to engage directly with everyone through newsletters, advertising, our website and community meetings. However, direct monthly contact through the CRG guarantees all concerns are clearly heard by the Water Corporation.
Nominations for the CRG are now closed. Successful nominees will be notifed shortly and the first meeting is likely to be held in early August.
For further information on the CRG, please download the draft terms of reference below. If you have any questions, please call 1800 810 075.
